An obsessive fan of soundtrack and library music for many years, Andrei Nikolsky has made the well-trodden path of producing sample based music (The Lost Years, 2024 – previously lost music from the mid 00’s) to gigging and making live recordings with his London based band The Kanpai Quartet (Rick James Dwells In The Abyss / Pearly Gates, 2023). Both vinyl releases on his Palace Records label.
Dabbling with keys, electronics, percussion, flute and with a penchant for whimsical melodies and unassuming arrangements, he takes his inspiration from dons Umiliani, Alessandroni, Morricone, et al.
The second single from the band (recorded at Abbey Road) is due out early 2025 and he’s currently working on a second solo LP.
